Velia turns a spare Android phone into a Guardian with computer vision that watches over your mom or dad: presence, routine, and alerts to the family. The detection AI runs inside the phone — video is never stored, and it travels end-to-end encrypted: no server, not even ours, can watch it.
No app to install, no battery to charge, no button to press, nothing to wear. The phone sits in the room and watches on its own. Dignity starts by asking nothing of the person you care for.
The detection AI runs entirely inside the phone. The default mode is alerts-only, no image. If you ask to watch live, video travels end-to-end encrypted between phones — never stored, and unreadable to any server in between, including ours. It isn't a policy we could change: it's how it's built.
The Guardian is an Android you already have in a drawer. At home, over your own WiFi, Velia is free forever. To care from afar, US$9.90 a month — versus the hundreds of dollars a year a contract medical alert usually costs.
Velia doesn't ship video to the cloud for a remote model to watch. The model lives on the phone. Here's what it does, in real time, on the edge:
A vision neural network tracks the person's posture several frames per second — standing, sitting, lying down, on the floor. From the body it reads position, not identity.
Over a few days, Velia learns where the floor, the bed, and the doors of that room are. It tells “resting on the couch” from “on the floor” with nothing to configure.
Two Guardians seeing the same scene correct each other. If one is unsure and the other sees nothing odd, no alert fires. Fewer false alarms at 3 a.m.
On a critical event — and only if you turn it on — a larger cloud model reviews a single frame and shows the family the shift from fright to relief. That frame is discarded, never stored. The only pixel that ever leaves the phone, and it leaves with your permission.
The AI describes presence and routine; it never diagnoses. “Got up at 8:12” ✓ · “has an infection” ✗.
Every point is proven on real hardware or running in the app today. Presence and routine are the heart; falls are a best effort, never a guarantee.
